Liebe Gemeindemitglieder,

in diesen Wochen schmerzt, dass wir nicht in gewohnter Weise unsere Gottesdienste in der Christuskirche und an den anderen Orten des Pfarramtsbereiches in Reading und Petersham feiern können. Wir spüren: Kirche ist Gemeinde, die Christus selbst durch Wort und Sakrament um sich versammelt wie wir es in unseren sonntäglichen Gottesdiensten als Gemeinschaft konkret erfahren.

Auf die Christuskirche werden wir als Ort unserer gottesdienstlichen Feiern für einige Wochen noch verzichten müssen. Heute aber kommt die Christuskirche zu Ihnen nach Hause. Mit Fotos und Zeugnissen aus der Glaubens- und Kulturgeschichte, die wir auch in unserer Kirche in Knightsbridge finden. Auch unsere Kirche ist für viele Menschen schon zu einer Schatzkammer und einem Kraftort des christlichen Glaubens geworden. In über 100 Jahren konnten sich dort zahlreiche Gläubige  der Gnade und Liebe Gottes vergewissern und Trost und Zuspruch erfahren. Davon möchte Ihnen die „kleine Führung“ etwas erzählen.

Dear Congregation,

It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the sudden death of Jane Parker-Smith, our long-standing organist.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and colleagues.

Jane was the organist at the German Christ Church for over 30 years. She enriched our services with her wonderful preludes and postludes as well as her invigorating accompaniment.

She is now safe in God's hand and in His love.

Jane’s family will conduct a private committal service. However, at a date still to be confirmed, there will be a Memorial Service held at All Saints, Margaret Street, London in which we plan to participate as a congregation. We will mark our service at the German Christ Church on Sunday, July 12, with a tribute to Jane.

Jane's family has requested that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations would be welcome to a charity which will be set up in Jane’s name. The charity will aim to inspire young people to play the organ (as soon as further details are known, we will publish them here).
